Time is on Your Side
I will do it when I’m older. I will do it when I have more experience. I will do it when the timing is more convenient.
Statements like this are far too common in our lives. We live in a world where putting things off until "a more opportune time" has become the norm in many circles. My question is why?
Why do we put things off indefinitely with the unrealistic expectation than when I'm 27 and "settled down", I will suddenly have months of free time to tackle this idea or finally cross that item off my bucket list? To be blunt, this is absurd. You will be just as busy then, if not more so, than you are now.
In my opinion, this way of thinking all boils down to one common denominator, comfort.
It is uncomfortable to set out and try something new. Most people are afraid of the unknown and that is what keeps them from trying. They like being comfortable.
What if I fail? What if I'm not good at it? These are the questions that fill our head. They are the "What if's?"
Let's look at it from a different angle. Rather than focusing in on why it might not work out, look at the assets you have now that won't exist later. The greatest of these is time.
You have time on your side. If you fail, you have more time to catch up and rebuild. If you hit a home run, you have more time to reap the rewards. Either way you spin it, time is your friend.
Now think about this statement. You will never be as young as you are today. Right now, this very moment, is the youngest you will ever be in your life. Today is the best day to step out and take that risk you have contemplated for years.
WARNING: This idea applies to everything except marriage. Just thought I should throw in that little disclaimer.
Step out of your comfort zone and take a calculated risk. In the next few weeks, I will post about how I am doing this in my life.
